Chief Deputy Michael Nolan

Chief Deputy Michael Nolan

Chief Deputy Nolan was promoted to his rank on July 8, 2008.

A former Florida State Trooper, Major Nolan joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in April 1988. He began his career with this department in the Jail Division and worked as a Corrections Officer and Deputy Sheriff.

Chief Deputy Nolan received training at the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory and functioned as an Evidence Technician until September 1991 when he was assigned to the Organized Crime Unit and Combined Agencies for Narcotic Enforcement (C.A.N.E.) task force. He worked in an undercover capacity for the next five years and handled asset forfeiture for the organization as part of his responsibilities.

As a result of his success in handling major cases reaching nationwide, he was recognized by the Dayton Police Department, Wayne County Prosecutors Office (Richmond, Indiana) and the Drug Enforcement Agency for his outstanding service as well as being named “Deputy of the Month,” in October of 1995.

In 1996, Chief Deputy Nolan was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and after spending a short time working Road Patrol and Dispatch he was assigned to the Jail Division until 1999 when he returned to the Road Patrol. As a Reconstructionist, he supervised the Traffic Services Unit. He oversaw the operation of the School Resource Officer Program, Community Oriented Policing Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.

In November 2001, Chief Deputy Nolan was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned as the Assistant Division Commander of the Jail Division. From January 1, 2004 until June 2004, he worked in Personnel assisting the division commander with contract negotiations and employee recruiting and testing.

In July of 2004, Chief Deputy Nolan was assigned as the District Commander for Harrison Township. In July 2007, Chief Deputy Nolan became the commander of the Jail Division which includes court security and the jail that can hold up to 936 inmates.

Chief Deputy Mike Nolan graduated from Fairmont West High School in Kettering, Ohio. He majored in Public Relations at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He is an experienced pilot, flying both single and twin-engine aircraft as well as a rancher, specializing in raising Angus breading bulls.


Major John Brands

Major John Brands

Major John Brands joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in 1987 as a corrections officer. He graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 1990.

Major Brands served in the Operation Division in both the patrol and special investigation sections. In 1994 he was assigned to the Organized Crime Unit and Combined Agencies for Narcotics Enforcement (CANE) Task Force. He served in an undercover capacity. While in the unit he was recognized for his accomplishments by the United States Secret Service, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Dayton Police Department. He also served as a member of the SWAT team during this period.

In 2000 Major Brands was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. As a Sergeant, he was assigned to the Jail Division, Courts, and the Inspectional Services Unit, which is responsible for conducting internal investigations. He served as the accreditation manager (CALEA) from 2002 to 2005.

Major John Brands was promoted to the rank of Major on March 1, 2005 where he served as the Personnel Director until July 2007. He is currently assigned as the Commander of the Support Services division.

Major Brands graduated from Northmont High School in Montgomery County. He attended Kent State University and Sinclair Community College.

Major Greg Laravie

Major Greg Laravie

Major Greg Laravie joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 1985, after serving over five years as a parole officer with the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. Laravie graduated from the Ohio State Patrol Academy and began his career as a deputy sheriff assigned to the Jail Division. In 1988, Laravie was assigned to the Operations Division where he worked uniform patrol in Harrison, Jefferson and Washington Townships.

In 1994 Major Laravie was assigned to the Special Investigations Section as a detective. In addition to spending several years with the Economic Crime Unit, Laravie had an opportunity to investigate a variety of criminal offenses. In January of 2005, Laravie was assigned to the Inspectional Services Unit, which is responsible for conducting internal investigations.

In April of 2005, Major Laravie was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Jail Division Court Detail. In June of 2005, Laravie assumed the position of Sergeant with the Inspectional Services Unit.

Major Laravie was promoted to the rank of Captain on August 1, 2005 where he was assigned as the District Commander in Harrison Township.

Major Laravie was promoted to the rank of Major on October 13, 2006 where he serves as Division Commander for the Sheriff’s Office Operations Division.

During his career Major Laravie has been a SWAT team member and a Field Training Officer. Additionally, Laravie served as president of the Sheriff’s Office Benevolent Association for five years.

Major Laravie graduated from Archbishop Alter High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Middle Tennessee State University. Laravie obtained his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University.

Major Glen McIntosh

Major Glen McIntosh

Major Glen McIntosh joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 1984 as a civilian employee. He was promoted to the position of deputy sheriff in 1987. As a deputy sheriff he continued working in the jail before serving as a dispatcher and then as a road patrol deputy. During his time as a patrol officer he served in the capacity of a K-9 handler, evidence technician and SWAT team member.

Major McIntosh was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 1994. As a sergeant he served as a jail supervisor, dispatch supervisor and road patrol supervisor. In 2003 he was transferred to the detective section where he served as the supervisor for the CANE drug task force. He was then made supervisor of the Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Section.

Major McIntosh was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2005. He served in this capacity for a short time before attaining his present rank. He currently serves as the Major in charge of the Sheriff’s Office Personnel Division. Major McIntosh has been an active member of the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and the Montgomery County Regional SWAT team since 1990. He continues to serve in this capacity.

Major McIntosh is a native of Montgomery County. He graduated from Dixie High School and earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Sinclair College. Major McIntosh graduated as a member of the 230th session of the FBI National Academy in September of 2007. Major Daryl Wilson

Major Daryl Wilson

Major Daryl Wilson joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in 1991 as a deputy Sheriff. Prior to joining the Sheriff's Office, Major Wilson worked for the Board of County Commissioners' security force as a sergeant for three years.

As a deputy, Major Wilson served in the Jail Division, Road Patrol Division, Community Oriented Policing Unit, Field Training Officer an a evidence technician. In 1995 he was assigned to the Organized Crime Unit where he served in an undercover capacity as a narcotics detective. While in the unit, he was recognized for his accomplishments by the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Dayton Police Department. Major Wilson has been an active member of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office SWAT team and the Montgomery County Regional SWAT team since 1995. He continues to serve in this capacity as a Team Commander.

Upon Major Wilson's promotion to the rank of sergeant in 1998, he was assigned as a supervisor in the Jail Division. In 2001, he was assigned to the Road Patrol Division as a Road Patrol/Administrative Sergeant. In 2004, he served as a supervisor for the Inspectional Services Unit which is responsible for conducting internal investigations.

In 2005, Major Wilson was promoted to the rank of Captain an assigned to the Operation Division as the Assistant Operations Commander.

Major Wilson is currently assigned as the Jail/Court Division Commander.

Major Wilson graduated from Dunbar High School, attended Sinclair Community College and numerous accredited law enforcement training courses.

Captain Scott Landis

Captain Scott Landis began his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 1989 as a Corrections Officer assigned to the Jail Division. He was promoted to the position of Deputy Sheriff in 1994, and served as a Road Patrol Deputy in Harrison, Jefferson and Washington Townships. In 1999, Captain Landis was assigned to Harrison Township as a Detective investigating property crimes. He was later assigned to the Special Investigations Unit investigating a variety of serious criminal offenses, including child abuse cases.

During his career, Captain Landis has served as a C.O.P.S. Officer, a Field Training Officer and a member of the SWAT team.

Captain Landis was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in April 2005. He held supervisory positions in the Jail, Court Services, and Road Patrol. He served as an Administrative Sergeant in the Operations Division before being promoted to the rank of Captain in January 2008.

Captain Landis is currently assigned to the Operations Division as the Assistant Operations Commander.

Captain Landis graduated from Dixie High School in Montgomery County, and has attended numerous accredited law enforcement training courses.

Captain Dee Osterfeld

Captain Dee Osterfeld

Captain Dee Osterfeld joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in 1986 as a corrections officer assigned to the Jail Division. She was promoted to the position of deputy sheriff in 1987, where she served as a patrol deputy and an evidence technician. In 1995, Captain Osterfeld was assigned as a detective in Harrison Township and later worked as a detective in the Special Investigations Unit. Upon her promotion to the rank of Sergeant in 1999, she was assigned as a supervisor in the Jail Division. In 2001, she was assigned to Road Patrol. As a Sergeant, she supervised Traffic Services, Forensic Services, the School Resource Officer Program, and the DARE Program.

Captain Osterfeld is assigned to the Operations Division as the Commander of the Washington Township Substation. She is also a trained Hostage Negotiator and serves as the Commander of the Hostage Negotiation Team.

Captain Osterfeld is a native of Montgomery County. She graduated from Miamisburg High School and earned an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from Sinclair Community College.

Captain Jeff Papanek

Captain Jeff Papanek

Captain Jeff Papanek began his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 1987 as a corrections officer assigned to the Jail Division. He was promoted to the position of deputy sheriff in 1992, where he served as a road patrol deputy and an evidence technician. In 1996, he worked for a short time as a detective in the Organized Crime Unit, and in 1997, and until his promotion to sergeant, he worked as a detective in the Inspectional Services Unit, which is responsible for conducting internal investigations. Additionally, Captain Papanek served on both the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and the Montgomery County Regional SWAT team from 1994 until 2003.

Captain Papanek was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1999 where he served in the Jail Division. In 2001, he was assigned to the Road Patrol where he worked as a shift sergeant in Harrison, Jefferson, and Washington Townships.

In May of 2005, Captain Papanek was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and assigned to the Jail Division where he worked as a shift commander.

Captain Papanek was promoted to the rank of Captain on October 13, 2006. He is currently assigned as the District Commander for Harrison Township, which contracts with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for police services.

Captain Papanek is a native of Montgomery County. He graduated from Centerville High School and attended Wright State University. Captain Papanek is married with two teenage daughters.

Captain Rob Streck

Captain Rob Streck

Captain Rob Streck joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office in 1996 as a Corrections Officer in the Jail Division. He graduated from the Sinclair Community College Police Academy and was promoted to the rank of Deputy Sheriff in 1997.

Captain Streck served in the Operation Division as a patrol deputy in Harrison, Jefferson, and Washington Townships. In 2002 he was assigned to the Montgomery County Regional Training Center as a full time law enforcement trainer. In 2003, Captain Streck was assigned as a detective in the Inspectional Services Unit, where he was responsible for conducting internal investigations for the Sheriff’s Office and numerous other law enforcement agencies. Captain Streck also served Montgomery County as a member of the SWAT team during this period.

In 2004, Captain Streck was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. As a Sergeant, he was assigned to the County Jail, Court Services, and the Inspectional Services Unit. During 2005 and 2006, he also served as the Sheriff’s Office Accreditation Manager for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Captain Streck was promoted to the rank of Captain on October 13, 2006 where he is currently assigned to the Support Services Division.

Captain Streck is a native of Montgomery County. He graduated from Brookville High School and attended Sinclair Community College. Captain Streck obtained his degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University.

Captain Brian Dershem

Captain Brian Dershem joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as a civilian dispatcher in July 1983. In April 1984 he was appointed as a deputy sheriff and completed the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy.

In April 1984 Captain Dershem was promoted to the rank of sergeant and served as a supervisor in the Jail Division and the Operations Division as a patrol sergeant and as an administrative sergeant. As a sergeant he was also assigned to the Inspectional Services Unit and was responsible for conducting internal investigations, developing policy and serving as the accreditation manager (CALEA). Captain Dershem also served in the Court Services Unit. During that time period he worked with the Ohio Supreme Court to establish state-wide court security standards in response to increasing threats of violence against the judiciary.

Captain Dershem was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in June 2002 and served in a variety of assignments in the Jail, Operations and Support Services Divisions. As an administrative lieutenant in the Operations Division he was instrumental in establishing the Montgomery County DUI Task Force which continues today as a multi-agency deterrent to drinking and driving.

In July 2008 Captain Dershem joined the command staff and currently serves as the Assistant Jail Division Commander.

Captain Dershem is a graduate of Trotwood-Madison High School and Sinclair Community College. Captain Dershem and his family reside in Vandalia.
