The
Patrol Headquarters building is located in Jefferson
Township at 555 Infirmary Road, Dayton, Ohio 45427, (937) 225-4177.
In addition to patrolling the unincorporated area of Montgomery
County, personnel assigned to Patrol Headquarters are also responsible
for a variety of the Operations Division’s support functions.
Some examples of those support positions include, Evidence
Technicians (crime scene investigators), DARE instructors (Drug Abuse
Resistance Education) and civil process.
Traffic
Services
The Traffic
Services Unit is managed from Patrol Headquarters and is responsible
to oversee the implementation of traffic programs, investigate traffic
crashes and traffic law enforcement with an emphasis on reducing
injuries and fatalities that result from traffic crashes.
The unit provides assistance to other law enforcement agencies in
the investigation of serious traffic crashes, including traffic crash
reconstruction.
The latest addition
to the Traffic Services Unit is a van equipped with portable
scales that deputies use to weigh trucks suspected of exceeding the
established weight limits for highways and bridges.

The
DARE program at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office consists of
full-time Deputies assigned to community education, whose
responsibilities include providing the DARE curriculum to area schools,
adult drug education, general safety topics to various age groups as
well as other community education programs.
The
DARE program consists of several different age-specific programs that
together help toward developing a drug and violence free generation.
The core curriculum is targeted at the 4th and 5th
grade level, which is the heart and soul of the program.
The Junior High curriculum is taught in the 7th or 8th
grade, depending on the school system.
Community
education deputies provide services for school safety patrols and observe
school bus loading and unloading. They
also set-up educational displays at events, such as community parades
and the Montgomery County Fair, using such characters as McGruff--the
Crime Dog, Safety Pup, and Daren the Lion.
For additional information about the DARE program or other
educational programs call (937) 225-4913.
