Hello, and welcome to Dr Kelly's Korner!!!
It is my hope that you will visit often to find many helpful tips for how to keep your four-legged friends healthy and happy at home.
But first, let me tell you a little about myself. I was born and raised on Cincinnati's West Side, and have family ties to the Dayton area. Since I was four years old, I have always wanted to be a veterinarian, and I am lucky enough to be living that dream today. Although I will always have a fondness for Cincinnati, my husband and I relocated north several years ago, where we now live with our six-year-old daughter , two cats, and one American Eskimo dog.
I am extremely blessed to be working at the Animal Resource Center, with a great crew who makes a real difference every day in the lives of stray and unwanted animals.
Through 10 years in private practice, I received the greater part of my experience in shelter medicine while working part-time for animal shelters in the Greater Dayton area. It is that experience which led me here, and I feel as if I have finally found where I belong. I am now able to pursue the career I have always wanted, while making a real difference in the lives of both animals and people in my community.
From the moment I began my practice, I have worked to inspire young students to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Staff members I have worked with through the years could tell you quite a few stories about my open-door policy for students to come watch me at work, and I am often known to stop everything to talk about the career with anyone who asks. Perhaps it is because my mother was a teacher, but I have always wanted to assemble a curriculum which could be used to teach children of any age about the exciting opportunities awaiting them as a veterinarian. After years of development, the Animal Resource Center has given me the opportunity and resources to do just that.
In my work here at the ARC, I have to wear many hats (surgeon, police officer, doctor, manager), but by far my favorite role is that of teacher. If you are a teacher or parent yourself, I encourage you to visit the ACES program here on our website. There, you will find my latest exciting project, which aims to inspire elementary-age children to pursue the same career that has made me so happy. And if you are ever at the ARC, please feel free to ask for a tour, where you no doubt will find me working to make a difference every day, along with the whole crew!!
