Summary:
Dayton – Montgomery County's Stillwater Center, a home for children and adults who have the most severe and profound mental retardation, are physically challenged, and/or have significant needs held its second annual garden party on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. The party is the idea of Jeanne Bohrer, MD, the Center's Medical Director.
Dr. Bohrer created a community garden last year in Stillwater's courtyard for the people who live at the Center and their families to enjoy. And this year she has developed an "International Garden" in an area near the front of the building. This garden features colorful flags from 13 nations to celebrate the diversity of the center. There will be patio tables with coordinating color umbrellas. Several residents have created individualized paving stones to border the garden.
According to Dr. Bohrer, "the beauty of the "International Garden" provides a
relaxing outdoor venue that stimulates many of our residents."
In addition to the garden party, the Stillwater Choir under the direction of Angela Jones will perform at 12:15 PM. This choir is comprised of Stillwater residents and staff. Ms. Jones states, "although most of the residents of Stillwater are unable to sing the words, they sing with their hearts and eyes with wonderful expressions."
Stillwater center is funded, in part by Montgomery County's Human Service Issue on the November 6th ballot.
