Summary:
Montgomery County Commissioners Lieberman, Dodge and Foley along with County Prosecutor Mathias Heck held a joint press conference to announce the sentencing of the defendants.

Case Timeline:
31 Dogs were seized July 23rd, 2006 from Hoover Avenue
4 Dogs were seized September 6, 2006 from Anna St. & Lincoln Street
Three defendants charged were Louis Snowden-Davis, Donyell Moschetti & Simon Denby
Defendants were indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury with Dog Fighting, Possession of Criminal Tools (felonies) and Animal Cruelty (misdemeanors) on November 3, 2006
Defendants pled "no contest" and were found guilty on all counts on July 6, 2007.
Sentencing took place today, August 21, 2007

The pit bulls housed have presented a challenge to Animal Resource Center staff
Dogs have injured staff and other dogs while in our custody.
Dogs have damaged the shelter while being held including kennels, automatic waters, equipment and resting pallets.
Extensive safety precautions and security measures have been ongoing.
Costs to the County were over $100,000 for housing, medical care, and daily boarding.
This case has taken more than one year to resolve.
The Animal Resource Center has not had to euthanize one healthy adoptable dog since July 2006 by working with our animal welfare partners including the Humane Society of Greater Dayton, SICSA and area rescue groups.
Legislation is pending in the Ohio House of Representatives to improve procedures for holding dogs seized as the result of fighting investigations.
The Animal Resource Center staff and the Dayton Police Department have worked diligently with the County Prosecutor's office to see this case to a successful conclusion.
Sentence is comparable to other cases nationally involving dogfighting. (1-4 years)
Sends a message that Animal Cruelty and Dog Fighting will NOT be tolerated in Montgomery County.
