Summary:
Montgomery County Commissioners Dodge, Foley and Lieberman, along with County Auditor Karl Keith will be kicking off Amnesty Week for Dog License sales on Friday, June 8th at the Animal Resource Center's Bark Park (Webster Street).
"The Amnesty program is designed to encourage dog owners to license their dogs, avoiding the late penalty and pay only the $16.00 license fee" according to Commissioner Lieberman. Proceeds from the licenses help the Animal Resource Center to care for stray and lost animals, spay and neuter every animal that leaves the center as an adopted pet and provide animal control services to our region.
Commissioner Foley stated that "The Animal Resource Center has a wide variety of pets available for adoption. Dogs and cats of all sizes, shapes and colors are available for adoption and come with a health check, spay or neuter, microchip and standard vaccinations." Dog adoptions typically run $100.00, and cats are adoptable for $50.00.
A Montgomery County license can be traced 24 hours a day, 365 a year from a link with the Montgomery County Auditor . A license distinguishes a lost dog from a stray dog. Strangers are more apt to extend themselves to licensed pet. The Montgomery County Dog License provides legal proof of ownership, and licensed dogs are eligible for the Vacation Registration Program.
Amnesty dog licenses will be available from Monday, June 11th through Sunday, June 17th. They will be sold at the Animal Resource Center and from the Auditor's Office in the County Administration Building. Commissioner Dodge announced "Residents can also purchase dog licenses as part of the Amnesty program at several Kroger stores through the weekend: Friday, June 15th, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at 4506 Brandt Pike in Dayton, Saturday, June 16th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 155 N. Heincke Road in Miamisburg, and Sunday, June 17th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at 780 Northwoods Blvd. in Vandalia."
Auditor Karl Keith will announce Friday that dog licenses can now be purchased online at www.mcohio.org/dogs. Dog Owners will be permitted to purchase licenses online by inputting their dog's information and paying a $2 fee for each transaction of up to five dogs. "I am proud that my office is taking advantage of new technology to offer better services to dog owners," said Keith. The online sales program launches on Monday, June 11th to coincide with Amnesty Week for dog licenses.
