Commissioners Approve Memorandums of Understanding with Butler, Greene, Miami, and Preble Counties to join county crime data system
|
Release Date: Apr 30, 2007
File:
Summary:
Montgomery County Commissioners recently approved giving Butler, Greene, Miami, and Preble Counties access to Montgomery County's Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS). The system is a data warehouse that integrates criminal justice information from various sources, such as municipal and county courts and courts outside the county in order to help law enforcement track criminals. The data-sharing helps law enforcement and human services agencies determine a person's involvement in the criminal justice system, for example, whether they have convictions, pending charges, are in jail or have had other involvement with the criminal justice system. Each county's court and law enforcement data also will be on the system. The counties are given access at no charge but are required to bear the cost of preparing their data to go into the system. Adding new counties enables local officials to determine very quickly if a suspect has been in trouble with the law across county lines, and take appropriate action. |
