DEPARTMENT OF JOB & FAMILY SERVICES
TEAM UP FOR CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION

Saturday, April 7 Bombers Game to Feature "Pinwheels for Prevention"

As part of National Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month (April), the April 7th Dayton Bombers hockey game has been designated as "Pinwheels for Prevention Night." Presented jointly by the Dayton Bombers and the Children Services Division of the Montgomery Country Department of Job & Family Services, this event will raise awareness about child abuse prevention. The game begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Nutter Center as the Dayton Bombers take on the Toledo Storm.

In 2005, there were 3,826 investigations of child abuse in Montgomery County.  That same number of colorful pinwheels will be handed out to fans attending the Bombers game.  Montgomery County is one of 66 Ohio counties participating in the "Pinwheels for Prevention" effort.

"Child abuse is preventable. We can all make a difference by raising awareness about child abuse and reporting suspected abuse," said Christy Norvell, interim director Montgomery County Department of Job & Family Services. "It's a sobering realization when you see the actual number of pinwheels representing each child abuse investigation annually."

To learn more about child abuse and neglect, log onto the Children Services website at www.montcsb.org.  If you suspect child abuse, call your local law enforcement agency or call 224-KIDS.  Children in Montgomery County are also protected with help from the Human Services Levy.

"Pinwheels for Prevention" is an initiative of Prevent Child Abuse Ohio, a statewide organization whose mission is to help prevent the abuse and neglect of Ohio's children by serving as an expert resource for collaboration, information and education.  More information can be found at www.pcao.org or call 614-722-6800.
