Release Date
: Feb 28, 2007
File: Point_in_Time_Count_Factsheet

Summary:

A total of 785 homeless adults and children were counted during the 2007 Homeless Point-in-Time Count for Dayton and Montgomery County that was conducted on Friday evening, January 26th and the early morning hours of Saturday, January 27th.  The Count found 719 people who were staying in one of the community's emergency shelters or transitional housing programs on the night of January 26th.  An additional 66 individuals were identified who were unsheltered, living on the street, on the night of the 26th.  One hundred and twenty people, or almost one-quarter of the unaccompanied adults counted, are chronically homeless according to HUD's definition, meaning they have a disability such as substance abuse or mental illness and have either been homeless for more than one year or have had several episodes of homelessness over the last three years.  Of the 281 people in homeless families, 169 were children and 112 were adults.

The Point-in-Time Count does not include people who were living doubled up with family or friends or those who cycle in and out of the emergency shelters but who spent the night of January 26th somewhere else including in the hospital, jail, or a treatment facility.
