Montgomery County Commissioners Hear of Need and Plan for Senior Transportation Options
|
Release Date: Feb 20, 2007
File:
Summary:
Montgomery County Commissioners heard about the need for senior transportation options in order to help keep Montgomery County seniors in their own homes. Seniors often loose out on preventative healthcare, healthy food options and social interaction once they stop driving their own vehicles. In order to help keep seniors healthy, in good nutrition and connected to their communities, a wide variety of options are being studied by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission. Officials are looking long-term at potential senior transportation needs, since many baby-boomers will be reaching a maturity level where transportation will become an issue. The City of Kettering, in cooperation with the RTA, MVRPC and the County, provides partially subsidized transportation to approximately 250 clients. Programs such as this one and others across the country are being studied at this time. The Montgomery County Human Services Levy provides funding to help keep seniors in their own homes through transportation, home delivered meals, home care visits and other programs in conjunction with established senior services providers in the region. |
