2008 Property Reappraisal

2008 Property Reappraisal

The County Auditor is responsible for determining the fair market value of every parcel of property in the county for taxing purposes. Once every six years, state law requires that all properties be reappraised. The last countywide reappraisal was completed in 2002. The Auditor is required to complete another reappraisal in 2008.

The appraised value of a property is used for taxing purposes. Voters determine the tax rate they wish to pay for education, police, fire, lighting, human services, libraries, water and sewage through levies.  The amount of tax responsibility for each property is in proportion to that property's value.  A property's appraised value and the voter-approved tax rate are factored together to determine the amount of each tax bill.
