Trace Evidence

Forensic Scientist:
Suzanne Noffsinger
Laura Kiddon

The trace evidence section examines microscopic forms of evidence, such as hairs, fibers, paint, glass, and soil, that often transfer between objects during the commission of a crime. Trace evidence analysis deals with the identification and comparison of these transferred materials. The materials can be classified based upon physical, chemical, and microscopic properties, then compared with similar types of material from known sources.

The trace evidence laboratory processes over 350 cases per year, examining over 1700 different specimens, including hair and fibers, glass, paint, footwear, soil and other products.

Inquiries about trace evidence examination can be directed to (937)225-4990 or by e-mail to noffsingers@mcohio.org
