Coroner Investigators

Coroner investigators are responsible for obtaining information surrounding deaths reported to the Office of the Coroner. The Coroner's Office employs eight forensic medico legal investigators who are specially trained in death investigation. All coroner investigators have law enforcement experience with approximately eight years in investigations, and are certified as evidence technicians, EMTs or nurses. The investigations section operates twenty-four hours per day and can be reached at (937) 225-4156. Their duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Crime scene investigation
  • Medical record review
  • Subpoena of information
  • Courtroom testimony
Harry Brown, Chief Investigator

Harry came to the office in 1988 from the Oakwood Police Department after almost 14 years, 10 years as a detective.  He has been the Chief Investigator since 1991 and is responsible for coordinating the investigative efforts of the office.

Randy Brannon

Randy came to the Coroner's Office after retiring with 28 years service with the Dayton Police Department.  He also served in the Homicide Squad for six years and last was assigned to a Federal Violent Crimes Task Force.

Les George

Les came to the Coroner's Office after retiring from the Kettering Police Department with 29 years service.  In his last fifteen years with Kettering, he was assigned as a Violent Crimes Detective.    

Tom Lawson

Tom came to the Coroner's Office in 1996 after 27 years with the Dayton Police Department.  His last six years he was assigned to the Homicide Squad.

Bob Hunkeler

Bob served as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations for 20 Years.  He was a Forensic Science Officer for eight years, serving as the Chief of Death Investigations for three years.  He last served in Iraq before retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2008. 

Jim Fannin

Jim transferred to this office from the Butler Township Police Department after twelve years of service.  He also worked seven years with the Englewood Police Department and thirteen years with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.    

Michael Fox

Mike is a retired Lieutenant from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office with 27 years of service.  Some of Mike's assignments with the Sheriff's Office included four years as a violent crimes detective, a detective supervisor and Special Investigations section commander.

Jim Glaser

          Jim is a retired Sergeant from the Montgomery County Sherriff's Office with 26 years
          of service.  Assignments included several years as a violent crimes and narcotics
          detective.  Currently Jim is also assigned to the Montgomery county DNA Cold Case
          task force.
